The suspect, Paul D. Koksvik, a resident of Newburgh, was reported to be traveling southbound in the northbound lane on Interstate 87, according to police.
Koksvik exited the Thruway in Kingston, proceeding west, when his car was stopped in the Town of Ulster by police, officials report.
Koksvik fled from the traffic stop, continuing west, traveling at an excessive speed through the towns of Ulster, Kingston, and Hurley, continuing into the Town of Olive, where he was stopped by pursuing police, according to officials.
Koksvik was taken into custody and charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer and resisting arrest, police report.
He was arraigned in the Town of Olive Court, according to police.
The State Police were assisted by the Ulster County Sheriff's Department, the Town of Olive Police and New York City Department of Environmental Protection Police, officials report.
