GARNERVILLE, N.Y. -- Joseph (Joe) T. Scanlon, of Garnerville, died Saturday, Nov. 12.
He was born May 5, 1931, in Brooklyn.
He graduated from Franklin Lane High School in Brooklyn and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp in 1951. He proudly served in the Korean War. He was immensely proud to be a Marine and was rarely seen without his Marine hat or shirt. He retired from the Salvation Army College for Officers Training in June 2015.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemarie Scanlon; and his sister, Evelyn Raser.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jenny and William Scanlon; and siblings, Jane, Ann Margaret, Barney, Billy, Walter, John and Eddie.
His family and friends will honor his life from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home; 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville. A Mass of the Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Gregory Barbarigo; 21 Cinder Road, Garnerville. Interment to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery; Route 9W, Haverstraw.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to The Joe Raso Hospice Residence/United Hospice of Rockland.
