Louis Jerome Adler, 75, and his wife, Dorothy Adler, 72, were charged with 44 counts of cruelty to animals, the Humane Society said.
The society, along with numerous law enforcement agencies, served a search warrant on the home at 13 Chestnut St., in Stony Point, in June after receiving numerous complaints of abuse, neglect and unsanitary conditions at the home, officials said.
At that time they found at least 10 dead dogs at the home along with 21 Huskies or Husky-mixes. Another dog was seized on a return visit to the home on July 10, the Humane Society said.
The dead dogs were found in garbage bags and plastic trash cans, officials said.
At the time of the search warrant seizure Stony Point Police Lt. Daniel Hylas said officers found squalid conditions inside the home including urine and fecal covered floors and conditions not safe or suitable for dogs.
Health Department officials deemed the home unsafe for human habitation and it was condemned. All utilities were shut off for safety until the numerous health and building code violations could be addressed.
The Adlers are due in court on Tuesday, Aug. 22.
