Driver, Passenger Ejected From Vehicle In Morning Crash On I-87

A serious one-car accident Friday morning on a stretch of I-87 in Newburgh near the I-84 interchange has resulted in the driver being airlifted to Westchester Medical Center and the passenger also being hospitalized.

The crash occurred around 8:10 a.m. on northbound I-87 north just north of Newburgh (Exit 17).

The driver of a Ford Roadster struck the guiderail on the right shoulder and both the driver and passenger were ejected from the vehicle, according to state police. The driver was rushed to Westchester Medical Center with serious physical injuries, according to police.The passenger was taken to St. Luke's Hospital for minor injuries, police said.

All lanes northbound have been reopened.

The accident is still under investigation.
