Who Has Rockland's Best Hot Dogs?
- Dog House, Nanuet
- New City Deli, New City
- The Filling Station, Haverstraw, Palisades
So where’s the best place to slather on the toppings and indulge in the perfect weiner? Daily Voice readers picked three nominees for our DVlicious “Best in Rockland County,” contest, each of which is being profiled this week.
Read below for what makes each nominee a “top dog,” then let your fingers do the clicking. Keep in mind you can vote multiple times, albeit once per day. Voting ends 4 p.m. Thursday, July 28.
The Filling Station, 243 Route 9W, Palisades, (845) 359-9000; T.F.S. Burger Works, 45 South Route 9W, West Haverstraw, (845) 786-9000Frank Talk: The Filling Station, a charmingly restored 1939 gas station popular with the cycling crowd, and its sister restaurant, T.F.S. Burger Works, with its industrial, garage-y vibe, both have grilled dogs made with 100 percent Black Angus beef.
You can eat them outdoors at the Palisades location on a patio, at a counter, or around a fire pit. They have a long, ever-changing, lineup of craft beers, too. And what goes better with a dog than a brew? (If in the mood for something more exotic than a dog or burger, you can pop next door at the Palisades spot to its bakery and gourmet take-out, or eat-in, market.) By the way, if The Filling Station looks familiar, it’s because it was used as a set for the 2001 Drew Barrymore movie “Riding in Cars with Boys.”
Top This: The toppings are made from all-natural, high quality ingredients – no straight-out-of-the-jar stuff here. The regular dog comes with sauerkraut and dill pickle relish, while their Philly Dog has grilled onions and cheddar cheese sauce. But the customer fav seems to be the Junkyard Dog with diced tomatoes, onions, pickles, hot peppers and yellow mustard.
