The Hudson Valley Film Commission said the production company for the movie "Departures," is looking for local residents 18-to-22 years old of all ethnicities who look like high schoolers.
The commission said they prefer all applicants are local to the Hudson Valley region and that they have a Screen Actors Guild Card (SAG).
The movie, which also stars Asa Butterfield, who previously starred in Martin Scorsese’s "Hugo," is about a young person who is battling a terminal illness.
Commission officials said they have received hundreds of applicants, but most don't have "good" headshots. They offered the following tips on how NOT to take a selfie.
- Do not ever take a selfie of your reflection with your phone in a frame.
- Don't tilt the camera on an angle.
- Do not send photos where you are in the company of others. Casting is looking for your headshot and yours alone.
- Do not sit in your car and take a selfie. This is a common practice, which we just cannot figure out.
- Do not send photos where you are making a face. It's not flattering.
- Do not send a photo that is out of focus
- Do not send a photo that has low resolution
- Do not take a photo of yourself lying on the floor or in bed.
- Do not send more than two photos. One is best.
- Do not send a photo that is too dark or grainy
- Never use a halo effect where a light is placed behind you.
- Do not pout your lips or make "duck lips"
- Do not wear sunglasses
- Do not feature your tattoo.
- We suggest that you don;t tilt your head. It makes many people look deranged. Keep your head straight.
- Do not send vacation photos.
- Do not send full body shots when we are asking for a headshot.
- Do not send a photo where someone's arm is on your shoulder. This goes back to having the photo taken of you alone.
- Do not crop any part of your head out of the photo.
- Do not forget to include clear contact information -- phone, email, the town you live in, etc.
- Do not pose with your dog or cat or pet.
- Do not send a photo that doesn't look like you.
- Do not send an old photo. Send a recent photo.
- Do not send a photo where you are wearing face paint.
They also suggest using a professional photographer, a friend, or a new phone whose cameras have great resolution.
"We recommend that at worst, you stand in front of a white/generic backdrop and either take a selfie with your arm straight out," the commission said. "Snap a few portrait style photos of your face and neck and try your best to make it look like it is not a selfie."
All photos should be 8-by-10-inches.
