The crash happened on Clove Road in the town of Union Vale around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, according to the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators say Sarah McAllister, 18, of Dover, was driving a white 2004 Nissan sedan northbound when she lost control on a sharp curve near the West Clove Mountain Road intersection. Her vehicle then crossed into the southbound lane, where it was hit by a black Ford Ranger traveling in the opposite direction.

Emergency crews extricated McAllister from her vehicle, and both drivers were rushed to the hospital. Sadly, McAllister later died from her injuries at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital.

The other driver survived and was treated for injuries.

Authorities believe excessive speed, wet road conditions, and aggressive driving may have contributed to the deadly crash.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash—or the moments leading up to it—to contact Detective Twaddell at 845-486-3828 or ktwaddell@dutchessny.gov. Tips can also be submitted anonymously via 845-605-2583 or dcsotips@gmail.com.
