Injured Hawk Rescued By State Police Off Taconic State Parkway A fast-acting New York State Police trooper came to the rescue of an injured hawk in danger on the side of the Taconic State Parkway. The trooper on patrol in Dutchess County spotted the hawk that was unable to fly on the side of the road in Pleasant Valley this past week. The trooper was able to safely coerce the hawk into his police cruiser, and with an assist from Deputy Ryan Griffin of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, the bird was safely delivered to the Friends of the Feathered and Furry Wildlife Center in Greene County. Muskrat Stuck In Fence Rescued By Wildlife Officer In Area A muskrat stuck in a chain-link fence in the area was saved with the help of a wildlife officer. The incident took place on Friday, April 24 in Dutchess County when the Department of Environmental Conservation officers received word of the muskrat's situation in the city of Beacon. ECO officer Michael Hameline responded and safely removed the muskrat from the fence without causing further injury to the animal or damage to the fence, the DEC said.  The muskrat was transferred to Friends of the Feathered and Furry Wildlife Center for rehabilitation and is expected to make a full recover…

Injured Owl Fledgling Saved By Wildlife Officers In Area An injured owl fledgling was saved by members of the Department of Environmental Conservation after finding it in Sullivan County. The owl was saved after the DEC received a report on Wednesday, April 22, in the town of Neversink. Department officers Glen Parker and Christopher Doroski responded and were able to local the owl and capture it without incident.  The owl was taken to the New Paltz Animal Hospital where it was evaluated and determined to be underweight and suffering from an injured keel.  The owl will be taken to the Friends of the Feathered and Furry Wildlife Center…

Alligators, Turtles Found In Area Home A call to the state Department of Environmental Conservation led wildlife officials to two types of alligators and more than 20 turtles living in a living room of an area home in unsanitary conditions. The animals were discovered after Environment Conservation Officer Zachary Crain received a call notifying him of two crocodilians, also known as caimans, and approximately 20 turtles at a private residence in the town of Wappingers Falls, the department said.
