Former Property Manager In Poughkeepsie Sent To Jail For Embezzlement

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- A former property manager at Tubman Terrace apartments who pleaded guilty last year to two counts of embezzling funds was sentenced Monday to 18 months in prison, according to Preet Bharara, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

Carl Immich, 54, of Milan, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Cathy Seibel for ripping off more than $150,000 from the federally subsidized complex in the City of Poughkeepsie.

Immich fraudulently obtained the money from HUD funds from December 2010 until at least in or about March 2015 from the operating account of Tubman Terrace, which were paid to him or used for personal expenditures, Bharara said.

During his time as manager from 2010 to 2015, Immich turned the once crime and gang-ridden apartments into a safer place to live.

"Repeatedly and routinely, Carl Immich stole public money meant to subsidize housing for indigent tenants, and used it to dine out, travel, renovate his house, and play golf," Bharara said. "For his brazen fraud, Immich was sentenced today to time in federal prison.”

The once-popular manager of the 200-unit apartments will begin his prison term on April 13. He was also sentenced to three years of post-release supervision and was ordered to repay the money he embezzled.
