Drunk Driver Crashes, Tries Running — Then Stopped By Cops, Civilians In Putnam, Sheriff Says
A 19-year-old driver accused of trying to flee a Putnam County crash first by car and then on foot was taken into custody with help from off-duty officers and several civilians, authorities said.
Esdras R. Cardona Ovalle, 19, of Carmel, was arrested following a crash at Fair Street and Gleneida Avenue in Carmel on Friday, Sept. 11, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office announced on Wednesday, Sept. 23.

Dozens of vehicles were impounded and nearly 300 tickets were issued during a crackdown on ghost plates and toll evasion on the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, police said.
