New York's 40th State Senate District voters have officially chosen their next representative. Democrat Pete Harckham, age 64, has been projected as winning re-election for his fourth term in the New York State Senate seat representing Northern Westchester and parts of Putnam and Rockland counties, according to the state's Board of Elections. As of just after 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, Harckham was leading his opponent, Republican Gina Arena, by 50 to 44 percent. The votes have been tallied, and a projected winner has come out on top in the race for New York's 17th Congressional District seat. Incumbent Republican Rep. Man Caught After Starting Outdoor Fire On Island In Mahopac Lake During Burn Ban: Police
A man was apprehended after starting a blaze on an island in a Hudson Valley lake and not putting it out despite numerous orders from authorities, police said. The arrest resulted from an incident in Putnam County on Friday, Nov. 1 at around 6 p.m., when residents reported an open burn on Teakettle Spout Lake in Mahopac, according to the town's police department. A 40-year-old drunk driver was apprehended after fleeing a traffic stop in the region, police said. The incident leading to the man's arrest began in Putnam County just before 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, when a Kent Police officer saw a vehicle driving erratically on Route 311, according to the department. Authorities are investigating the death of a man whose body was found along a Hudson Valley road. The body of Northern Westchester County resident Charles Flowers, age 81, of Somers, was discovered on Stoneleigh Avenue in Putnam County on Wednesday, Oct. 30 around 1 p.m. in the town of Carmel, according to Trooper AJ Hicks of the New York State Police. Firefighter Falls Through Floor While Battling Blaze At North Salem Home
A firefighter fell through a floor during the response to a blaze at a Northern Westchester residence. The blaze began on Tuesday, Oct. 29 inside the laundry room at a North Salem home on Nash Road, according to the Croton Falls Fire Department.
