A Connecticut man is facing felony charges after a brutal altercation left a Mahopac resident critically injured, Carmel Police announced in an updated release on Sunday, Dec. 8. Officers were called to the scene on Curry Road in Mahopac at 5:17 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7. They arrived to find two men in the roadway. A 44-year-old Mahopac man was unconscious with life-threatening injuries, while 32-year-old Brooks Lawrence of Connecticut was detained at the scene. An investigation is under way after a 7-month-old died on Long Island. Officers responded to a 911 call reporting that the baby at a Riverhead residence, on 3rd Street, was unconscious and not breathing. CPR was performed, but the infant was pronounced dead at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. An employee was hospitalized following an accident at a Long Island industrial business. Emergency crews in Inwood were called to the Inwood Material Terminal located on Sheridan Boulevard shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17. Students At HS On Long Island Forced To Wait Outside As Police Scour High School For Bombs
Police on Long Island say the bomb threat made against a high school was a hoax. Kellenberg Memorial High School, at 1400 Glenn Curtiss Blvd., in Uniondale was alerted to the call just after 7 a.m., Nassau County authorities said. The call was made anonymously to the 988 Lifeline, a suicide and crisis hotline. The caller claimed to have planted bombs around the school grounds. Police and Homeland Security agents had teachers and students wait outside until they deemed the area safe. Officers are investigating who made the call.
