Gianna "Gigi" Marie Angelina Solimine, an 18-year-old freshman from Long Island, is being remembered for her vibrant personality, adventurous spirit, and the joy she brought to everyone who knew her. Gigi, originally from Commack, New York, had recently started her freshman year at the University of Mississippi, where she was studying political science and building new friendships as a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Tributes are flooding in after a car crash claimed the lives of a beloved Long Island business owner and her fiancé. Kaitlyn McCready, 36, of Smithtown and Luis Rivera, 41, of Hauppauge, were both killed in a wreck Thursday, Dec. 12, while returning to New York, according to her obituary. A 50-year-old Connecticut father of four who served as one of New York's Finest during its most trying day has died. Richard "Rick" Stueber Jr. died on Dec. 10. His family did not disclose the cause of death. Stueber had been living in Stratford, CT but was born in Queens, New York, and had deep roots in Long Island law enforcement, according to his obituary shared by Riverhead News and Riverhead Local. Late Bicyclist Is Helping 4 Others Live Following Deadly Crash On Long Island
A late Long Island man is still helping others, even in death. Joseph Vujasin, 57, of Brookhaven, died after being struck by an SUV while bicycling in North Bellport on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 26. Suffolk County Police said a 44-year-old woman driving the SUV suffered a medical emergency and hit Vujasin as he rode near the intersection of Post and Atlantic avenues. He was taken to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue with serious head injuries and was declared brain dead. The Long Island hockey community is mourning the loss of a rising young star who collapsed and died during a charity game over Thanksgiving weekend. Connor Kasin, age 17, lost consciousness at around 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, during an intermission at the Town of Oyster Bay Skating Center on Stewart Avenue in Bethpage, Nassau County Police said.
