'Rare Star:' NYC Architect, Educator Erik Verboon Dies Unexpectedly
Erik Verboon, a New Jersey native, leading figure in architecture and engineering, and father of two, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Sept. 21, according to a GoFundMe created by his wife, Michelle Verboon.
"He was the love of my life and the most devoted father to Arjen and Bram,” Michelle wrote on the fundraiser, which had raised $54,615 as of press time.
“One of his greatest wishes was to give our children the best education and opportunities for their future. In his honor, I am creating this fund to help support their school tuition and future college expenses.”

'Best Boss Ever': Buffalo Wild Wings Manager's Death Sparks Outpouring Of Grief On Long Island
Mike Doherty was the kind of boss employees remember long after the shifts end.
The longtime general manager of the Centereach Buffalo Wild Wings, died Friday, Aug. 22, at the age of 52, according to his obituary. A cause of death was not given.
Now, Doherty is being remembered for his tireless work ethic, generosity, and the way he made both coworkers and customers alike feel like family.

A Hudson Valley community is grieving the loss of a beloved husband, father, and kitchen worker who died after a tragic workplace accident earlier this month.
Salomon “Salo” Pop Chub, of Saugerties, died Monday, Sept. 15, after spending a week in critical condition following an accident at a meat processing facility. He lost a significant amount of blood and went into cardiac arrest multiple times, according to a GoFundMe campaign.
“Salo was a cornerstone of our kitchen family and a beloved friend to all of us,” wrote organizer Ally Merritt, owner of Gracie’s Luncheonette in Leeds.

Aiden LoMele, 18, of Whitestone, Queens, was fatally injured in a collision at a busy Riverhead intersection on Tuesday, Sept. 9, as Daily Voice reported.

Mason Kraese, of Huntington Station, died Saturday night, Aug. 30, when the ATV he was riding crashed into a tree in the town of Summit in Schoharie County, according to the sheriff’s office.

A Long Island couple who spent more than five decades together lost their lives side by side when their car crashed in their hometown over the weekend.
On Monday, Aug. 25, Suffolk County Police identified the victims as Walter “Butch” Jakubowski, 83, and his wife, Margaret Jakubowski, 75, both of Ronkonkoma.
The crash happened around 11:20 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, when Walter was driving a Subaru Forester west on Peconic Street in Ronkonkoma, as Daily Voice reported. The vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane, left the road, and struck a tree.
