LI USPS Worker’s Gift Card Theft Operation Victimized At Least Seven, Authorities Say
Several victims of a postal worker’s theft operation on Long Island have been identified, authorities said Wednesday, Aug. 26.
Jovanni Jamison-Lewis, 36, of Mastic Beach, was indicted Wednesday on 20 charges for the brazen scheme, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office said.
Jamison-Lewis worked as a clerk at Oakdale Post Office and routinely opened mail and removed gift cards, investigators said. When cops searched Jamison-Lewis’s home in November 2025, they found 20 pieces of stolen mail, prosecutors said.

A New York man called for a cab, then tried to kill the driver and stole the vehicle, authorities said.
Jonathan Tejada, 32, of Scotia, was indicted Wednesday, Aug. 26 on first-degree attempted murder and other charges for the attack on the cabbie at a Motel 6 at 2700 Curry Road in Colonie on Wednesday, Aug. 19, the Albany County District Attorney’s office said.

Jayden Abadi Alvarado Velasquez, 40, of Hicksville, got 25 years to life in prison for the pattern of abuse and harassment that culminated in the traumatic attack, the Nassau County District Attorney’s office said.

LI Man Killed In DIY Car Maintenance Gone Wrong, Police Say
A Long Island man was killed in his own driveway Wednesday morning, Aug. 26 while working on a car, police said.
Nadeem Ahmad, 50, was working under a 2002 Toyota Camry in the driveway of his home in Selden, the Suffolk County Police Department said.
While Ahmad was underneath the vehicle, it became dislodged from the jack and rolled down the driveway at around 8:15 a.m., investigators said. The sudden movement trapped Ahmad underneath, according to police.

Burglary Suspect Captured On Long Island With Help From Drone, Police Say
Long Island cops used a drone to help track and arrest a burglary suspect on Monday, Aug. 24, police said.
Isaias Miranda, 26, of Brentwood, broke into a home on Richmond Avenue in Lindenhurst around 7 p.m. Monday, the Suffolk County Police Department said.
After cops got the call, they deployed a drone to search for the suspect near the home, authorities said. With help from witnesses, cops spotted the suspect with the drone and directed officers on the ground to Miranda’s location, police said.

A drunk boater off the coast of Long Island crashed his vessel, leading to a rescue and his ensuing arrest, police said.
Christopher Carlson, 48, of Patchogue, was piloting his 2004 30-foot Grady-White boat in the Great South Bay near Sayville around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, the Suffolk County Police Department said.

A Long Island man was arrested after his dog was found infested with flies and suffering from open wounds, authorities said.
Cecilio Matthews, 50, of Bellport, was charged with several counts of animal cruelty under state and county laws, the Suffolk County SPCA said Wednesday, Aug. 26.
Investigators determined earlier in the month that Matthews had failed to care for his 10-year-old mutt, Seven, leaving the dog neglected in a yard, according to the SPCA.
