A drunk and high Long Island driver who killed a pedestrian left the scene twice before finally calling the cops, authorities said Friday, Sept. 18.
Stephen Aylward, 63, of West Islip, was indicted Friday for the crash that killed Yusuf Gul, 27, on Thursday, June 25, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office said.
Aylward was traveling southbound on the Robert Moses Causeway around 1:30 p.m. when he struck Gul, who was walking along the shoulder, investigators said.

A suspect has been arrested in the killing of a man outside a Long Island strip mall, police said Friday, Sept. 18.
Jorge Alexander Huezo Villatoro, 35, of El Salvador, has been charged with second-degree murder in the killing of Tadeo Alvarado Chavez in Uniondale, the Nassau County Police Department said.
Alvarado Chavez, 40, of Roosevelt, was found dead near 979 Nassau Road in Uniondale around 4 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, police said.
Officers responded to a call for an aided person near the address and found Alvarado Chavez, who was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

An elderly Long Island woman nearly lost $50,000 to a scam before cops arrested one suspect, police said Friday, Sept. 18.
Han Bing Wu, 31, of Flushing, Queens, was charged for part of the scam, the Nassau County Police Department said.
An 84-year-old Manorhaven woman got an alert on her computer claiming to be the Citibank fraud department on Sunday, Sept. 13, authorities said. She called the phone number on her screen, and someone on the other end told her to take out $30,000 cash and give it to an “FBI agent,” according to investigators.

A burglary on Long Island led to the discovery of about 1,000 pounds of marijuana inside a house, police said.
Antonio M. Velay, 27, of Southampton, was arrested following the investigation, the Southampton Town Police Department said.

A 27-year-old Oceanside, NY resident was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated on Route 46, authorities announced.
At 11:46 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 12, officers observed a blue Hyundai traveling east on Route 46 failing to maintain its lane of travel, Mount Olive police said. Officers initiated a traffic stop and as they spoke with the driver, John Pichardo, he detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage and noted that he appeared to be impaired, police said.
