Congers Man Caught With Cocaine After Speeding Stop, Police Say
.An early morning speeding stop on Route 303 in Rockland County led to a drug charge for a 21-year-old man from Congers, police said. An officer from the Orangetown Police Department on patrol at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, on Route 303 in Blauvelt stopped Justin Turnick when he was caught speeding. During the subsequent traffic stop, police said that the officer detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, and Turnick was found to be in possession of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. Propane Gas Leak At Storage Tank On Route 303 Causes Road Closures
A stretch of Route 303 was shut down for several hours in Rockland County as first responders dealt with a leaking propane storage tank, police said. First responders were dispatched to the Beckerle Lumber Supply Company on Route 303 in Orangeburg shortly after 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17. Upon arrival, it was determined that a large propane storage tank that is used to fill smaller propane tanks was leaking gas. A 35-year-old woman has been charged with allegedly possessing heroin after a traffic stop in Blauvelt, police say. Members of the community are coming together to support a family of seven after a fire heavily damaged their home in Blauvelt on Sunday. Previous story: Neighbors Help Rescue Residents After House Fire Breaks Out In Blauvelt Neighbors rushed to the aid of the seven after the blaze broke out on Glynn Oval just before 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16. The seven, along with their family dog and pet lizard, all are safe and sound, but the home was heavily damaged. A collaborative effort between emergency responders and local residents helped save seven people after a house fire broke out in Blauvelt. The Orangetown Police Department responded to a working house fire on Glynn Oval in Blauvelt just before 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16.
