Manchester Firefighters Rescue Dog From Burning Home Firefighters in Hartford County rescued a dog from a burning home on Tuesday, Jan. 14, saving the pooch before flames consumed the property. Crews were called to a home at 69 Fleming Street in Manchester just before 2:30 p.m. They arrived to find smoke billowing from the roofline. The family escaped mostly unharmed. Paramedics examined one person for smoke inhalation at the scene, but they did not need to be hospitalized. Woman Killed In New Fairfield Head-On Collision That Sent 3 Teens To Hospital A 62-year-old woman was killed earlier this week in a head-on crash with an SUV in Fairfield County. Diane K. Staab, of Mahopac, New York, was identified as the victim who died in the crash, which occurred in New Fairfield on Monday, Jan. 13, shortly before 9:30 p.m., Connecticut State Police said. The crash happened on Ball Pond Road just north of Harvest Road. Staab's Jeep collided head-on with an oncoming SUV. School Bus Involved In Crash With Car In Vernon A Connecticut middle school bus was involved in a crash this week with 15 students on board, authorities said.  The crash was reported just after 2:40 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, near South Street and Crown Street in Vernon.
