The Civil Enforcement Division has a broad scope of powers and duties, which provides the public with a wide range of services, according to the Rockland County Sheriff's Office.
The Civil Enforcement Division enforces mandates issued out of the Supreme and local justice courts, enforces income and property executions, enforces evictions, seizes property, family court petitions, executes arrest warrants out of the Supreme Court, serves process in legal actions, prepares and conducts public sales, says the Rockland County Sheriff's Office.
The Civil Enforcement Division comprises 10 sworn personnel and five support staff. The staff members of the division are specially trained to carry out the many complicated steps involved in executing and enforcing civil process.
All Rockland Count Sheriff's Office employees have completed the New York State Sheriff’s Associations’ courses on civil enforcement. All of Rockland County's deputy sheriffs are police officers, certified by the Municipal Police Training Council.
In 2009, the Civil Enforcement Division became the 15th county to be accredited by the N.Y. State Sheriff's Association.
According to the Rockland County Sheriff's Office, the Civil Enforcement Division is responsible for recovering more than $3.4 million dollars in 2015. Since 2002, the division recovered more than $50 million dollars for plaintiffs.
During the years 2002 – 2015, the Civil Enforcement Division generated $5,191,085.73 for the County of Rockland. Annual revenue has increased more than 74 percent between the years 2002-15 due to the division.
