HILLBURN, N.Y. – The Con Ed substation fire that ignited Friday evening has been placed under control after almost three days of trying to hold extinguishment, authorities reported Sunday evening.

Multiple agencies, including the police, responded to the transformer fire at a Con Edison substation in Hillburn that Friday night.

"Once the fire is out, O&R will determine best course of action to take to begin repairs," RPD Police Chief Brad Weidel said. "It is possible that once repairs start there may be power outages in the region. It is too early at this time to determine the extent, if any, of any possible outages.

The fire started about 8 p.m. Friday, about 150 feet away from the Torne Brook.

Metal casing made containing flames difficult, and the fire flared back up several times.
