The police dog, part of the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office’s crew, just turned 7.

In human terms, he would be about 41, just in time for a midlife crisis.

Shadow’s primary duties – along with his partner Sgt. Christopher Ford -- are to search the county jail for illegal contraband and assist the sheriff’s police division and other law enforcement agencies with tracking and drug detection.

Sheriff Louis Falco III started the K-9 team with asset forfeiture funds.

Last year, Ford and Shadow, a German shepherd from the Czech Republic, competed against 19 other K-9 units from around the state and Connecticut in a contest of skills.

They came in first in the regional event.
