Police said they responded to the call at around 6 a.m. Monday to a parking lot on North Saddle River Road for a report of a truck hitting a car.
Police determined his blood alcohol was five times higher than the legal limit, noting the DWI laws are stricter for commercial truck drivers, police said.
The driver was arraigned at Ramapo Justice Court and his license was taken as bail. He was ordered to return to court next week, police said.
He's been charged with violating several DWI laws, including sections regarding aggravated DWI, police said.
On Monday, police handled 113 calls including 12 medical emergencies, 12 alarm activations, four fires and three arrests, including two for DWI. Police also dealt with a person who violated a stay-away order at a local business in Hillcrest, police said.
Police handled a total of 14 motor vehicle accidents, including three in Monsey, two in Montebello, two in New Hempstead, and two in Wesley Hills. They also handed accidents in Hillcrest, Hillburn, Kaser, Sloatsburg, and Northeast Ramapo. One accident involved an injury, and one was a hit-and-run, police said.
