Congers Firefighters Deliver Pizzas To Help Recruit Volunteers

CONGERS, N.Y. -- Congers Volunteer firefighters love Nicky's II Pizza, so when they received an alarm call early Sunday they were hoping it was just that, an alarm.

Luckily, it was a leak in the sprinkler system and the sprinkler company was called to repair the leak.

But there's a reason the fire department likes the little restaurant tucked away at 57 Lake Road, so much. Every once in a while firefighters from the department will deliver pizza for free for the restaurant in an attempt to recruit volunteers and teach about fire safety.

Last week the crew teamed up with the restaurant to handle all the food deliveries for an evening.

At each house, they offer information on how to become a volunteer firefighter, talked with kids about fire safety, and gave each resident a smoke detector to promote fire safety.
