Ruback, the current athletic director at the Biondi School in Yonkers, had faced grand larceny charges for using violence against the man to collect a loansharking-type debt, said lohud.com.
The former Spring Valley High School football coach, made the deal without informing prosecutors, leading Rockland District Attorney Thomas Zugibe to say the office would not pursue criminal charges, added lohud.com.
The man agreed to drop the charges in exchange for $5,000 from Ruback and an agreement that he would not pursue a civil lawsuit to recover the money owed, said lohud.com.
Following the agreement, the judge issued Ruback an adjournment in contemplation of dismissal, which means he cannot be arrested for six months before the charges are dismissed. If Ruback is arrested during the six months timeframe, he could be re-charged, reported lohud.com.
Ruback's legal issues with the man date back to 2014 when he sued Barry Dorfman for $95,000. Ruback claimed he had loaned Dorfman $81,000. Dorfman denied receiving the money from Ruback, and counter-sued, claiming he was forced to make loan payments with $50,000 in interest payments, said lohud.com.
A Supreme Court justice ruled against Dorfman in August, added lohud.com.
Ruback, who claims he has not missed a Giants game in 14 years, is known for wearing Giants-themes license plate placards to games, said lohud.com.
