Barbas, an employee of the state Thruway Authority, will work with the builders, Tappan Zee Constructors, to make sure the bridge opens on schedule in 2018, added lohud.com.
She specializes in long spans and working in cold weather and has worked on numerous large projects including leading the design and construction for the reconstruction of the Williamsburg Bridge and heading up the design of a major highway in Montreal, added lohud.com.
To date, 99 percent the bridge has been designed; 55 percent of concrete piers are finished; 46 percent of the steel girders have been built; 34 percent of the deck panels have been completed; 13 percent of the main towers have been poured, and 100 percent of dredging is finished, reported lohud.com.
For residents who would like to follow the project, the Tappan Zee team has added new photos and videos at www.newnybridge.com.
