Westchester Woman Accused Of Abusing, Neglecting, Starving Dog, SPCA Says
A Westchester woman is facing animal cruelty charges after allegedly failing to provide adequate food, water and veterinary care for an extended period to her young pit bull, according to the SPCA.
The SPCA of Westchester announced that Yonkers resident Carletta Jenkins, age 43, has been arrested and charged following an investigation into her treatment of “Mad Dog,” who was found abused following a fire in her apartment.
On Tuesday, April 19, the Yonkers Fire Department responded to a kitchen fire on Riverview Place, where they found a young, emaciated Mad Dog inside the apartment.

Former College Athlete, Longtime Firefighter In Westchester Dies Suddenly At Age 63
A former college athlete and longtime member of a Westchester County fire department has died at the age of 63.
Joseph J. Garan III, a resident of Putnam Valley, died suddenly at home on Friday, March 11, according to his obituary.
Garan was born in Yonkers, and he participated in a number of sports growing up, such as baseball, golf, and football.
He graduated from Arlington High School and received a bachelor's degree from Iona College in New Rochelle, his obituary reads.
He was also played for the Manhattan College baseball team.

Dozens Displaced, Including 19 Children, After Apartment Fire Breaks Out In Westchester
Dozens were displaced in Westchester after a fast-moving fire tore through a pair of apartment buildings, officials announced.
Crews from the Yonkers Fire Department responded to two buildings on Ash Avenue at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 14, fire officials said, when a blaze broke out, leaving upwards of 40 people without a home.
Firefighters responded to the scene of the blaze within minutes, but it quickly spread between the two buildings, prompting a call for backup from nearby departments.

Motorcyclist Critical After Falling 27 Feet To Roadway Below Following Crash In Westchester
A 20-year-old man was critically injured after he lost control of his motorcycle on an entrance ramp to a parkway in Westchester County and fell 27 feet to the street below.
Angel Lopez, age 20, of West Hazelton, Pennsylvania, was taken by ambulance to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla following the accident, which occurred about 11 p.m., Sunday, April 18 on the entrance ramp to the Cross County Parkway in Yonkers, said Kieran O'Leary, spokesman for the Westchester County Police.

Police have identified the 25-year-old man killed during a crash on the Saw Mill River Parkway in Westchester.
Julius Lee, of the Bronx, died around 2:45 a.m., Monday, June 22, after crashing his Yamaha motorcycle on the southbound Saw Mill just before the Rumsey Road exit, said Kieran O'Leary, spokesman for the Westchester County Police.
O'Leary said Lee lost control, veered off the parkway onto the grassy shoulder, struck a guard rail and was thrown from the motorcycle.

ID Released For Victim In Fatal Four-Alarm Westchester Apartment Fire
A man killed during a fire at a four-story building in Westchester has been identified.
Peter Lettieri, 64, a resident of the building, was killed during the four-alarm fire that started around 7:28 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 23 at 112 Saratoga Ave., in Yonkers, said Yonkers Police D/Lt. Dean Politopoulos.
In addition to Lettieri, who lived on the first floor, five residents were injured, and 26 firefighters, with two still in the hospital, said Yonkers Fire Department Deputy Chief Joseph Citrone.
One of those injured was forced to jump from a third-story window to escape.
