Bus Crash: NY Charter Company Has 'Satisfactory' Safety Record, But It's Not Perfect
The New York charter bus company involved in a deadly highway crash that killed two educators and left dozens of high school band students hospitalized holds a “satisfactory” safety rating, though records show nearly two dozen maintenance violations in recent years. A check of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) website shows that Regency Charter Buses, based in Suffolk County in Nesconset, was involved in one injury crash in the past two years. Three people on board a small plane en route from Martha's Vineyard escaped injury after it crashed on Long Island. The incident happened around 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18 at Fishers Island Airport in Suffolk County. The plane, a Piper PA32 single engine, was traveling to Montauk when the aircraft began to have engine troubles, according to New York State Police. George Santos impersonated a high-level Congressional aide in order to raise money for the then-aspiring lawmaker, a scheme that Santos was well aware of, federal prosecutors allege. Samuel Miele, age 27, is charged with wire fraud and identity theft as part of a five-count indictment that was unsealed in federal court in Brooklyn on Wednesday, Aug. 16. Health officials are investigating how a New York resident contracted a rare bacterial infection that ultimately claimed the person’s life. The family of suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann is taking legal action against police who they say turned their New York home upside down in their extensive search for evidence in the case.
