Dozens of students from New York have been named semifinalists in the country’s oldest and most prestigious science and math competition for high school seniors. The Society for Science announced the top 300 scholars in the Regeneron Science Talent Search for 2024 on Wednesday, Jan. 10. Participants were whittled down from 2,162 applicants from 712 high schools across 46 states, Puerto Rico, and 10 other countries. A Long Island doctor and his wife are accused of using the names of reality show cast members to prescribe and fill prescriptions for opioid drugs. Francis and Jessica Martinis, of Fort Salonga, were arraigned on multiple charges in Suffolk County Court on Thursday, Dec. 14. Mr. Martinis is a Northport-based urologist and works with several hospitals, including Mount Sinai Hospital and Huntington Hospital at Northwell Health. Millions of New Yorkers will soon have their criminal convictions sealed under new legislation meant to better help them find jobs and housing. Gov. A Long Island restaurant is permanently closing two weeks after dozens of people were sickened from a foodborne illness incident. The last day in business for Kumo Sushi & Steakhouse in Stony Brook will be Sunday, Sept. 24.
