Bomb Threat Closes Hudson Valley High School: Police Students and staff have been sent home for the day to allow police to investigate a bomb threat at a Hudson Valley high school. The Town of Poughkeepsie Police said Spackenkill High School in Poughkeepsie received the threat late Monday, Dec. 9d. The department said several other school districts in the region also received the threat. The threat is believed to be a hoax. Out of an abundance of caution, the Spackenkill School District has dismissed the high school students and staff to allow for a complete investigation. Former Hudson Valley Congressional Candidate Found Dead At Age 41 A 41-year-old lifelong New Yorker died in an apparent suicide two weeks after he dropped out of his race for a United States House of Representatives seat in the Hudson Valley. Afghanistan war veteran Kyle Van De Water, age 41, was found dead in Dutchess County on Tuesday, Sept. 7, in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery by City of Poughkeepsie police. Covid-19: Area High School Sees Week-Long Spike In Cases A small Hudson Valley school district is contending with a spike in COVID-19 cases, with the most new cases at its high school. In the past week, from Friday, March 19 through Thursday, March 25, the Spackenkill High School in Poughkeepsie has reported 15 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in students and staffers, while there were 16 reported the week before. Of the new cases, nine were from students on-site, while 20 students were off-site. One staff member on-site and one off-campus. Police Locate Driver Who Approached Student In Dutchess County Following a warning Tuesday to parents of the Spackenkill School District about a person who asked a student to get inside a white van, police say they have located the vehicle and the driver. Town of Poughkeepsie Capt. Kevin Faber said the department had located the white commercial van and man that approached a 14-year-old girl around 3:45 p.m. Monday while she was walking on Spackenkill Road.
