Three Ramapo Businesses Caught Selling Alcohol To Underage Buyer
Three Rockland County businesses were busted for selling liquor to an underage undercover agent during an operation by the Ramapo Police Department. The operation was conducted in conjunction with the Rockland County Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children to help cut down on the number of businesses that sell to minors. During the operation, an undercover agent under 21 years old, attempted to purchase alcohol from businesses throughout the town without providing identification, the Ramapo Police said. Video Captures Bear Rummaging Through Garbage Pails In Hudson Valley
A family of bears made a surprise visit to an area home over the holiday weekend, rummaging through several garbage pails before making their way back into the woods. Officers from the Ramapo Police Department were dispatched to Grant Street in Sloatsburg on Saturday, May 26, where there was a report of a bear in the area. Village Attorney Charged With 'Fixing' Tickets, Zoning Issues
A former Spring Valley Village attorney has been charged with official misconduct for "fixing" tickets and zoning issues, according to Rockland County District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe. Lawrence "Larry" Weissman, 56, of Sloatsburg, was charged Tuesday with one count of official misconduct, the DA's Office said. Police in Ramapo are hopeful of the public’s assistance in reuniting a lost dog with its family in Sloatsburg. The Ramapo Police Department assisted with a lost German Shepherd who was found wandering in the area of Johnsontown Road early on Wednesday morning. The dog has since been transported to the Hi-Tor Animal Care Center in Pomona for safekeeping. Downed Wires Shut Down Roadway In Sloatsburg
Police have shut down a roadway in Sloatsburg due to downed primary live wires. Ramapo Police closed Sterling Mine Road around 8:30 a.m. Monday after the fire department reported the downed lines. Motorists are asked to avoid the area for at least the next several hours as crews work to repair the lines, police said. Moderate to heavy rain will continue until early Monday afternoon on a breezy day with a thunderstorm possible. New Rockland Eagle Scout Brian Smith Cited For Building Bocce Court
Rockland County Executive Ed Day congratulated Brian Smith of Sloatsburg Troop 31 at his Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony. Brian's community service project was to construct a new bocce ball court on the property of the Sloatsburg Senior Center as well as two benches and cedar planting boxes. Tree Falls On Tracks In Ridgewood, Delaying Trains
RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- Rail service on the Bergen, Main and Port Jervis lines through Ridgewood was temporarily suspended Wednesday after a tree fell onto the southbound tracks. A lengthy police investigation into a series of larcenies in Ramapo has led to the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect from Sloatsburg who now faces multiple charges. Officials said that in November and December last year, the Ramapo Police Department received several reports of larcenies from vehicles throughout the villages of Sloatsburg and Suffern, with suspects looting the cars. Updated: The Rockland County Department of Health lifted the boil water alert at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon. ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. - A water main break in Sloatsburg has led to a “boil water” order for some residents that may last as long as a week, according to a SUEZ spokesperson. The “boil water” order was issued on Thursday morning, and SUEZ said customers affected will be notified when it is lifted.
