Police Campaign Alerts Motorists Of Risks To School-Age Children
New York State Police have initiated a campaign to alert motorists of their ongoing risk to school-aged children. The “School’s Open - Drive Carefully” campaign runs through Friday, Oct. 11 and helps alert motorists to the special risks to school-aged children from motor vehicle crashes, which are the leading cause of death for children between the ages of five and 14. Buckle Up: Police Cracking Down On Unsafe Seatbelt Practices In State Parks
New York State Police will soon begin to crack down on improper and unsafe seatbelt use throughout state parks. “BUNY in the Parks” is an enforcement and educational campaign implemented by New York State Police, the New York State Park Police and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. Its goal is to help ensure that visitors of state parks are buckling up and staying safe. The campaign is also intended to teach the importance of properly securing younger visitors in approved child safety seats. Icy Roads Causing Numerous Accidents
Area police are reminding motorists to drive carefully as many of the roads remain icy and numerous motor vehicle crashes have been reported. If you must drive, AAA offers the following tips: Take it slow and leave plenty of room between your car and the car in front. Accelerate and decelerate slowly. Know your brakes. Don't stop if you can avoid it. Don't power up hills. Don't stop going up a hill. The best tip they offer: Stay home.
