The wave of COVID-19 cases in the United States triggered by the highly contagious Omicron variant may be at a turning point, an infectious disease expert says.
Former FDA commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb says parts of the nation may be about to pass the peak phase of the outbreak, while other regions will likely soon be hit hard.

A company has recalled several cream puff products due to the potential presence of small metal fragments.
Poppies International, Inc. recalled several products made from Tuesday, Dec. 7, through Friday, Dec. 10, after the issue was discovered during production, according to an announcement on Tuesday, Dec. 28.
The recalled products were available for sale from Thursday, Dec. 16, through Thursday, Dec. 23, the company reported.

Covid-19: Three More NY Residents Identified As Being Infected With Omicron Variant
Omicron, the new strain of COVID-19 that has caused worldwide alarm the last week, has now been detected in eight New York residents.
On Saturday, Dec. 4, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced three more cases have been identified, two days after the state announced its first five cases.
So far, the cases appear unrelated and have been confirmed through sequencing of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, according to the New York State Health Department.
All three of the new cases are from New York City.

Man Apprehended During Traffic Stop Sentenced For Killing Hudson Valley Man
A former resident in the area has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the shooting death of a Hudson Valley man.
Jason Jabouin, age 35, was sentenced on Monday, Nov. 29, to one count of manslaughter in connection with the killing of Ryan Franklin, of West Haverstraw on Friday, May 22, 2020, according to Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh.
Jabouin, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and formerly of Haverstraw, shot Franklin two times in the torso while in the Village of Nyack causing his death, the DA's Office said.

Cupcakes Recalled Due To Possible Contamination With Metal Mesh Wire
A company is recalling packs of cupcakes because they might be contaminated with tiny fragments of metal mesh wire.
Flowers Foods, Inc. announced on Sunday, Oct. 31, that it is recalling the Tastykake multi-pack cupcakes after receiving notification from a vendor that they could be contaminated.
The recalled products were distributed in New York, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington DC and West Virginia, the company said.
No injuries have been linked to the recalled products, Flowers Foods said.
