Anthony Haruch, 94, Spent His Career Teaching Art In Mahopac Schools, Dies From Covid-19 Anthony Haruch, 94, formerly of Mahopac and Somers, died on Sunday, July 5 from COVID-19.  The last of six siblings and a lifelong bachelor, he devoted his life to art education. He received his BS in Education from SUNY Buffalo and MA from Columbia University and spent his career teaching in the Mahopac Central School District. All First-Graders Released From Hospital After Ceiling Collapses All students who were at the Madden Outdoor Education Center in Putnam County when a portion of the ceiling collapsed on Friday were released from Putnam Hospital Center by 3:30 p.m., said Ellen Lane, communications director of Putnam-Northern Westchester BOCES. The students, first-graders from Fulmar Road Elementary School in Mahopac, were at Madden participating in a lesson on the food web when a portion of the ceiling gave way at 11:30 a.m.  A teacher notified Mahopac Central School district and called 911.
