Led by a strong showing downstate, New York is well-represented on U.S. News & World Report's brand-new rankings of the nation's best high schools. The rankings were released on Tuesday, Aug. 29. A pair of Hudson Valley high school students were among 40 nationally that were chosen as finalists in the prestigious 2022 Regeneron Science Talent Search (STS). 19: 29 New Cases Reported At School District In Westchester
A school district in Westchester is contending with a new spike in confirmed COVID-19 cases as the region does battle with the spread of the Omicron variant of the virus. Irvington Schools Superintendent Kristopher Harrison issued an alert to the community advising that the district has reported 29 new COVID-19 cases between Thursday, Jan. 6 and Monday, Jan. 10. Threat Discovered Written On Bathroom Wall At High School In Westchester
There will be an increased police presence at a Westchester high school after “an unsettling message” was found written in a bathroom. On Thursday, Jan. 30, a student alerted administrators at Irvington High School that there was a message stating “Don’t come tomorrow” that had been written on a bathroom wall, Schools Superintendent Kirstopher Harrison said. Irvington High School Principal David Cohen is officially leaving the district for a job on Long Island as of July 1. Prior to joining the district in 2013, Mr. Cohen worked as the Principal of Midwood High School in Brooklyn, where he led approximately 4,000 students with a vast array of programs, including 18 AP classes. Police have increased their presence on the campuses of both Irvington High School and Irvington Middle School following a threatening statement made by a student about allegedly doing harm on school grounds. Irvington Free Union Free School District Superintendent Dr. Kristopher Harrison said on Friday morning, March 22 that the threat was made on Thursday, March 21. Fire Causes Evacuation At Irvington High School
This story has been updated. Students were evacuated from Irvington High School following a fire from an extension cord. The incident happened around 8 a.m. Monday when the extension cord shorted out and caught fire in the area of the high school office at 40 N.
