21-Year-Old Man Charged With Rape Of Hudson Valley Minor, Police Say
A 21-year-old Copake man has been charged with felony rape following an investigation into alleged sexual activity involving a minor, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office announced. Capt. John Watterson said William J. Mair, age 21, of Copake, was arrested on Friday, Dec. 20, in connection with an investigation into sexual contact with a person under the age of 17. A Hudson Valley family already grappling with their 6-year-old daughter’s cancer diagnosis has been jolted by a new tragedy. Dutchess County resident Michael Manetta, age 54, was killed in a motorcycle crash in Columbia County on Sunday, July 31, New York State Police said. A preliminary investigation found that Manetta, of Red Hook, was riding his motorcycle on Route 7A in the town of Copake shortly before 11 a.m. when a driver cut him off while making a left turn. The fire took place around 7:58 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 6, in Dutchess County at 5902 South Elm Ave., in Millerton, said North East Fire District Chief Jason Watson. A COVID-19 outbreak at an upstate New York summer sleepaway camp has resulted in 31 confirmed positive cases with many campers returning home. Camp Pontiac is located in Copake, New York, in Columbia County, in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains. It's a seven-week camp for boys and girls aged 7 to 16 from all over the country. An investigation into a rape incident at a Hudson Valley summer camp has led to a felony charge for a Dominican national. State Police troopers were called to the Berkshire Hills Eisenberg Camp on Empire Road in Copake in Columbia County at approximately 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, July 23, where there was a report of a sexual assault.
