Weiss, who sports a World Series ring and has years under his belt in the majors as a player himself, officially resigned on Monday, citing issues with the front office as the reason, said the Denver Post.

Also a high school baseball coach, for his son's team, Weiss told the Denver Post there was no discussion with general manager Jeff Bridich and team owner Dick Monfort, before he made his decision, just saying it was time to move on, added the Denver Post.

Bridich apparently agreed with the decision and the fact that there was a poor working relationship, reported the Post.

Weiss’ three-year contract ended Sunday when the team ended its season with a 6-4 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, said the Denver Post.

Weiss, 52, knew the writing was on the wall when there was never any talk of negotiations during the season about a new contract, added the Post.

The team said it will search both inside and outside of the organization for a new manager.

Weiss, who was named manager in 2013, finished with a 283-365 record, ranking as the worst among the team's six previous managers. This season, the Rockies finished in third place in the National League West, said the Denver Post.

Born in Tuxedo, and raised in nearby Suffern, Weiss played for Oakland, Miami and Atlanta. He was Rookie of the Year in 1988, and played on the winning World Series team the next year. He also hit the first home run in Marlins history in 1993.
