State Paid Monitors $176,200 To Scrutinize East Ramapo School District

RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Three monitors were paid $176,200 by the state to analyze East Ramapo, one of New York's poorest school districts, according to lohud.com.

The five months of work by Dennis Walcott, Monica George-Fields and John Sipple resulted in a report similar to a previous state monitor's and recommended the installation of another overseer that can veto school board decisions, reported lohud.com.

According to lohud.com, $450,000 of funding has been requested to keep the monitors from April 2016 to April 2017.

The state Board of Regents unanimously passed 19 recommendations from the monitors, such as an infusion of $12 million to $15 million in new state funding for the next school year and the installation of a monitor with veto power, said lohud.com.
