Klein, who was unpopular with a vast and vocal portion of the largely politically divided school district, will step down effective Oct. 31, News 12 reported.
News 12 cited a district representative as saying an "exciting" announcement would be made at the next school board meeting. According to the district calendar, the next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday.
State officials appointed state monitors to oversee the district in September, News 12 said.
