Four candidates are duking it out for the right to run the village. Incumbent Demeza Delhomme is facing former deputy mayor Emilia White, trustee Vilair Fonvil and Alan Simon. Delhomme is running for a second term.

One candidate has spent time in jail, another is charged with multiple felonies related to corruption charges and a third was removed as a judge.

In April, Fonvil was arrested as an alleged co-conspirator in a corruption indictment involving the transportation of local children to summer camp. He was charged with four felonies including receiving a reward for official misconduct; corrupting the government; grand larceny as a crime of public corruption; and money laundering.

In 2014, Delhomme was jailed for four days for contempt of court for failing to open a day camp for children.

In 2016, Simon was removed from his role as Spring Valley judge by a state panel following an ethics investigation.

Delhomme said the village board has stifled his agenda, while Fonvil blames the mayor for his lack of leadership, according to LoHud. White said she hopes to turn the village around, while Simon has said he would expand the police department, according to LoHud.
