Burke told jurors that the Ramapo supervisor did nothing dishonest in his handling of the town's finances, but instead, was working in the town's favor, said News 12.
The feisty lawyer instead pointed a finger toward Aaron Troodler and Melissa Reimer as being untruthful in their testimony about St. Lawerence's financial dealings.
Troodler, St. Lawrence's alleged co-conspirator, pleaded guilty to the charges and has been working with prosecutors.
Reimer is a suspended town finance official who, Burke said, had an ax to grind with St. Lawrence after she faced disciplinary charges.
Burke's closing was continued from Tuesday, when he told jurors the supervisor was not accused of receiving any type of personal gain for himself.
The case is expected to go to the jury late Wednesday, after jurors listen to several hours of legal instructions from the judge, said News 12.
St. Lawrence, who is accused of 22 counts of cooking the town's books and lying about the town's finances in order to receive low-interest rates on $25 million in bonds to pay for Provident Bank Park, has pleaded not guilty.
