The 7:30 p.m. crash of the white Hyundai Sonata at the 5th Avenue grade crossing off Wait Street disrupted service on the Main Line #1125 train, which was due in Suffern at 8:09 p.m. after leaving Hoboken at 6:53 p.m., NJ Transit's Nancy Snyder told Daily Voice.

The driver was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center with undetermined injuries, Snyder said.

None of the 400 of so people aboard were injured, she added.

Rail service was temporarily suspended, and customers were accommodated with buses.

Told that witnesses had reported seeing the car trying to beat the train, Snyder would only say that NJ Transit "reminds motorists to obey all warning devices and signs and to exercise caution when approaching any railroad crossing."
