SUFFERN, N.Y. -- The bear that climbed the tree in Suffern has been captured and is being relocated.
The bear was tranquilized by a biologist with the Department of Environmental Conservation before falling out of the tree and landing on a padded area that had been put in place by the DEC.
Original report, Monday, 3 p.m.
SUFFERN, N.Y. – Suffern police had a big, furry problem on their hands Monday.
A young black bear that had been spotted roaming around Yorkshire Drive and Cypress Road was finally treed on Washington Avenue near the village’s business district.
Police called in the environmental conservation cavalry and, as of press time, were still trying to figure out how to get the nervous bruin down.
Police posted a video of the critter as it clung to the tree trunk.
Someone can be heard saying: “OK, buddy, don’t get anxious.”
Presumably, he was talking to the bear.
