RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Three additional Spring Valley men have been arrested in connection with the theft of two motorcycles that led to a chase with Ramapo Police officers that ended with a U-Haul slamming into a home on Zuba Lane, according to Ramapo Police Det. Lt. Mark Emma.
Police received a call around 3 a.m. Monday from the homeowner that three men were stealing his two motorcycles. As officers arrived they saw the U-Haul traveling north on Remsen Road. The officers followed the truck and stopped it on Route 306 near Viola Road, Emma said.
When an officer approached the truck, the driver drove off at a high rate of speed on Viola Road towards Spring Valley. As the chase ensued, the U-Haul attempted to turn onto Zuba Lane where it left the roadway and slammed into a home, Emma said.
The driver jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot. Two other suspects were found in the back of the truck, along with the two motorcycles, a 2013 Suzuki 400cc and a 2012 Yamaha 250cc.
The men, including Karl Lapeine, 19, of Spring Valley, and Ely Portillo-Mendoza, 16, of New Hempstead, were charged with felony grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal mischief.
Additional arrests related to this case following an investigation include:
- Raquan Shakil Jordan, 27, driver of U-Haul, of Spring Valley
- Mark Anthony Garcia, 19, passenger, of Spring Valley
- James Grey, 22, passenger, of Spring Valley
The three were charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal mischief.
