Justin Kasper, 40, of Rutherford, N.J., and Eric Hawk, 35, of West Milford, N.J., were charged with criminal possession of stolen property following a stop on Lafayette Avenue in Suffern, Chief Clarke Osborn said.
The arrest took place when an officer, who was on patrol and using a license plate reader, was alerted by the unit that the registration on a vehicle that just passed him on Lafayette Avenue showed the owner was reported as a missing person, Osborn said.
As the officer turned around to get a closer look at the vehicle the driver began to operate in an erratic manner and cut off two vehicles in the area of Orange Avenue, he added.
The vehicle was finally stopped on East Park Place where the officer determined that Kasper, the driver of the vehicle was the person who had been reported missing.
While speaking to the driver and a passenger in the vehicle, the officer observed a CVS cart inside the vehicle along with seven large canisters of baby formula. An investigation revealed that the items had just been stolen from the CVS in Montebello, Osborn said.
Hawk and Kasper were placed under arrest and turned over to the Ramapo Police where they were charged also charged with larceny. The vehicle was impounded and two are being held at the Rockland County Jail.
