Responding officers found the truck fully engulfed in flames and heard several loud noises coming from inside the vehicle when they arrived and discovered that it was ammunition.
Units from both the Suffern Hook & Ladder Co. #1 and the Suffern Volunteer Hose Company #1 responded to the scene within minutes. Police officers contacted arriving units to warn them that ammunition inside of the burning vehicle was exploding.
Firefighters used extreme caution while slowly approaching the vehicle and managed to fully extinguish the fire. Nobody on scene was injured and surrounding cars were undamaged.
The detective bureau determined that the cause of the fire was electrical in nature and that the ammunition was legally purchased, police said.
