Darwin Vasquez, 25, of Spring Valley, got into his ex’s apartment on Oakdale Manor through an unlocked bathroom window early Monday, police said.
When the unidentified woman came home, she noticed things seemed out of place and she called a friend on her cell phone, police said.
When she opened the bedroom closet door, Vasquez jumped out and she screamed, police said.
Vasquez snatched the phone from the woman, hung it up, and threw it away before fleeing, police said.
The woman’s friend, who was on the other end of the line, called 911.
Several police officers, including K-9 Patriot, tracked the suspect to the grounds of the Salvation Army’s College for Officer Training on nearby Lafayette Avenue.
He was taken into custody without incident, police said.
This is not the first incident involving Vasquez and the unidentified woman, police said.
Vasquez was charged in February with burglary, unlawful imprisonment and assault after he broke into the same woman's apartment, assaulted her and held her against her will, police said.
Two months later, he was charged with calling her and making threats, a violation of an order of protection, police said.
Shortly after that incident, Vasquez was charged with making more threatening calls to the victim and turning up at her apartment, police said.
Vasquez was being held for arraignment Monday, police said.
