Sidney Lemoine, 37, was charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument after submitting the fake papers indicating that he had performed several hours of court-ordered community service as required for a previous court sentence, Zugibe said.
According to the charges, the defendant filed the letter with the Clarkstown Justice Court confirming that he had completed the community service through a local nonprofit organization, when he had never performed the work, officials said.
“Community service is an important obligation for those sentenced to complete it,” said Zugibe. “Faking it is a serious crime that often leads to criminal consequences and longer sentences.”
Lemoine was arrested by the detectives with the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office Special Investigation Unit. He was arraigned in Clarkstown Justice Court and is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 7.
