The unidentified 24-year-old was first noticed around 4:36 p.m. on Route 17 in the Village of Sloatsburg driving in an erratic manner, police said.
The vehicle was observed traveling at a high rate of speed, tailgating, and weaving in and out of traffic. As the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver sped up and attempted to elude the officer, police said.
Officers were finally able to stop the vehicle on Route 17 in the Township of Mahwah, N.J., with the assistance of the Mahwah Police Department, police added.
The driver was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital by a Mahwah Ambulance for an unrelated medical condition where he was later placed under arrest by the officer, police said.
He was charged with several vehicle and traffic violations including reckless driving, driving without an Interlock Device, operating with a suspended license, and unlawful fleeing of a police officer.
