When police approached him, the suspect ran and locked himself in a bathroom, police report.
When police entered the bathroom, the suspect pointed a rifle at the officers; one officer grabbed the barrel and pushed it up toward the ceiling, according to officials.
A struggle ensued in order to gain control of the rifle and handcuff the suspect, police report.
During the struggle, one of the officers was repeatedly punched in the head by the suspect, according to officials.
The suspect has been charged with assault in the second degree, menacing in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and resisting arrest, police report.
He was arraigned in Ramapo Justice Court on Tuesday and released on bail, pending a court date later in May, according to officials.
Ramapo police also report that officers responded to 116 calls, including nine medical emergencies, a fire and 10 alarm activations on Tuesday, May 3.
Police report making three arrests, with defendants facing charges that include DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation and unlawful possession of marijuana.
Police also report six accidents: two in Monsey, two in Viola, one in Hillcrest and one in Northeast Ramapo.
One accident was a hit and run, according to police.
None of the accidents involved injuries, officials report.
