Several officers met with the public Saturday at Hillcrest Plaza in Spring Valley as part of the department’s latest recruitment drive.
According to a report by FioS1, the intent was not only to give officers a chance to dispel misconceptions about policing but to share their own experiences.
They also answered questions about policing in general and about the Rockland County police exam, which is being given on Saturday, Nov. 19.
Capt. Martin Reilly told FioS1 that meeting face to face adds a personal touch not really available by looking up information online.
Candidates have to be at least 19 years old on or before Nov. 19, 2016, to take the written test. Eligibility for appointment as a police or patrol officer starts at age 20.
Candidates who are 35 on or before Nov. 19, 2016, are not eligible. However, if they have been in the military, they can deduct up to six years from their age "for purposes of determining whether they meet the age requirement," police said in a Facebook post.
The deadline for signing up for the exam is Friday, Sept. 30.
